Bernese Mountain Dogs are a striking, tri-colored, large dog. This breed thrives best in cold weather. His coat is heavy, so therefore does not do well in very hot or humid climates. Its character is sweet, and gentle by nature. Bernese Dogs are extremely outgoing and affectionate, and love children. They are a loyal breed and a one-owner dog. If introduced to a new owner after 18 months, it is difficult for them to adjust. They are historically known as cattle-driving, tracking, and watch dogs. Today, they make fabulous watchdogs and family pets.

The Bernese temperament is that of a gentle, loyal dog, with a cheerful personality. They are highly intelligent and easy to train, but make sure to train gently as they are rather sensitive dogs. They are good around children and other pets as well. The Bernese Mountain dog really enjoys being with people and should not be confined to the backyard all by itself. They also get very attached to their owner and have a hard time adjusting to a new owner after 18 months of age.
