Bernese Mountain Dog Puppies

Bernese Mountain Dog puppies attract attention by their funny looks and playful, yet serious personality. This breed was developed specially for working at farms in Switzerland. These large and strong dogs were responsible for herding and protecting domestic livestock, pulling carts and guarding the house when the owners were away in the mountains for a long time. Today, the Bernese Mountain Dog is rarely used for its original purposes, but it found fame as a family companion.

Bernese Mountain Dog puppies may grow into very large dogs. The wither size for this breed varies between 58 and 70 cm. Bernese Mountain Dogs are sturdy, stocky, well-boned, and solidly built. They are agile, endurable and eager to work all day long. This breed is not intended for speed; it’s praised for versatility and endurance. Bernese Mountain Dogs adapt to any lifestyle. They are never hyperactive and don’t have hunting drive, which makes most dogs chase cats and other smaller pets. The Bernese Mountain Dog is dignified and protective. It does well with children and forms close bonds with the family.

Bernese Mountain Dog puppies don’t change their coloration as they grow up. When buying a puppy of this breed you may be sure that it will remain tricolor. All purebred Bernese Mountain Dogs have symmetrical white and tan markings against a jet black background. Tan markings should be over the eyes, on the cheeks, on the chest, under the tail and on the legs. Clear white markings form a blaze, a band on the muzzle, and a cross on the chest. White markings are desired on the tip of the tail and on the feet.

As it’s with all large dogs, Bernese Mountain Dog puppies grow in an uneven and uncoordinated way. They change their body built and transform drastically during their first 12-15 months. Guidance from an experienced breeder or a vet is very important for a novice owner of a Bernese Mountain Dog. A puppy of this breed should not be kept indoors, as it needs regular exercise. On the other hand, too much exercise is bad for the growing bones and muscles of a large dog. During the formative months, Bernese Mountain Dog puppies need much of the owner’s time, attention, and efforts.
