Breed organizations and associations all over the world promote Bernese Mountain Dogs by the means of educating breeders and owners about the breed. The Bernese Mountain Dog Club of America encourages breeders and owners to breed their dogs following the official AKC standard and all the recommendations of this all-breed registry. The Bernese Mountain Dog Club of America is the National club for the breed in the United States. It welcomes responsible breeders and offers three types of membership. They are the Regular, Lifetime, and Junior membership. As the name suggests, the Junior membership is open to the youngest breed fanciers. To acquire this membership, a person should be from 10 to 17 years old. The Junior membership allows to take part in club sanctioned events, yet does not provide a person with a right to vote.

The Regular membership is for people older than seventeen years old. Regular members have to pay dues and have a right to vote. They are also allowed to be involved in all the club's activities. The Lifetime membership is granted to those who have proved their devotion to the breed and are distinguished breeders and owners of the Bernese Mountain Dog.
The Bernese Mountain Dog Club of America holds various competitions for the breed. Thus, it is active in organizing obedience and tracking events, agility, and herding specialties. Bernese Mountain Dogs that excel in these activities receive titles and are considered the best representatives of the breed.
